Mark your calendars! The seventh Japan Festival Wellington will be held on June 18, 2022 at the TSB Arena and Shed Six on Wellington’s vibrant waterfront.

“We’ll be putting all our efforts into delivering a stunning event for all the family,” said Wellington Japan Festival Trust chair Jennifer King. 

King said the cancellation of this year’s Festival due to an unexpected change in Covid-19 alert levels had been very disappointing. “But all the work done by our wonderful volunteers for this year isn’t going to waste – it’s given us a strong foundation for next year’s Festival.”

The 2022 event will coincide with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Japan, which King says will be marked by some fun Festival activities. For the 60th anniversary, the Festival showcased the making of a 60 metre long sushi roll.

The organisation of the 2022 Japan Festival will be led by the Wellington Japan Festival Trust with the support of co-organisers Wellington City Council and the Embassy of Japan.
